WHAT WE ARE
The
Boulevard is your path to seven extraordinary museums and cultural sites
located only minutes apart. At one end you can enjoy picturesque
landscapes at one of America’s great estates. One of the most impressive
botanical gardens in the region, laid out in meticulous fashion, awaits
you at the other end. In between, you can explore a panorama of art,
science, children’s and history attractions, with special events and
unique shops abounding everywhere.
The Museums on the Boulevard
are a unique group of significant community treasures that serve as
exciting destinations for educational enrichment and tourism in the heart
of Richmond neighborhoods. The museum consortium seeks to enhance the
surrounding neighborhoods to promote access and visibility by improving
services including safety, signage, parks, parking, hotels, food and
landscaping. Museums on the Boulevard is working with the broader
community through civic organizations and other museums and cultural
groups to expand Richmond as a tourist destination and ensure economic
success for the region.
Collectively, the partners are
devoted to the continuity of the Boulevard and have developed a Vision
Plan as part of the national "100 Years - 100 Parks" Centenial
Celebration of the American Society of Landscape Architects. The Vision
encompasses long-range preservation and enhancement of cultural,
environmental, aesthetic and economic values within this critically
important area, involving the City of Richmond, Henrico County and the
State of Virginia. The Museums of the Boulevard comprise the Children’s
Museum of Richmond, Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, Maymont, the Science
Museum of Virginia, the Virginia Department of Historic Resources, the
Virginia Historical Society, and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
